Murphy injury lift for Blues
22 Jan 2010 - 10:12:16
Birmingham City have been boosted by the return to first-team contention of defender David Murphy.
The 25-year-old left-back has missed the entire campaign so far with a serious knee injury picked up towards the end of last year's Championship season.
"The first diagnosis was six months and after that I went back to training and it just wasn't right," he told the club's official website.
"I returned to see the specialist and he figured the problem out and now it's fine and everything is good.
"Being out for that length of time has definitely made me a stronger person. It's frustrating that it's taken so long but hopefully I'm on the right road now.
"I just need to get a couple of reserve games under my belt to build up my match fitness and I can be back in contention for the first team."
Murphy joined the Blues in a £1.5million deal from Hibernian in January 2008.
Meanwhile, Blues manager Alex McLeish has confirmed his interest in Rangers striker Kris Boyd.
