Birmingham City manager Steve Bruce hopes to be able to announce the signing of Tottenham Hotspur striker Mido later this week.
The Egypt international has already said that he has agreed terms to move to St Andrews on a season-long loan, while Bruce also hopes to tie up the signing of Mido's Spurs team-mate Hossam Ghaly.
"I believe we have signed an absolute top-class striker," Bruce told the Daily Star.
"He was a big hit when he arrived in the Premiership and we hope that he can recapture that form with us."
Mido, who has also been linked with Fulham and Portsmouth this summer, had earlier said: "Both sides have agreed terms. I will move on a one-year loan deal and they could buy my contract if the club survives in the Premier League.
"Birmingham's offer is the best I had received, especially that I chose to stay in England."
The 24-year-old scored 19 goals in 41 starts and 20 substitute appearances for Spurs after moving to White Hart Lane, initially on loan, in February 2005.
