McLeish waiting to pounce

Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish says his club are not close to making any more new signings, despite being on the lookout for new recruits.

West Ham centre-half Calum Davenport is rumoured to be McLeish's top target, but the Scotsman says that any deals are still some way away from being completed.

He told the Birmingham Mail: "I think supporters know that I don't like to name names.

"But there are a couple of situations we are working on to strengthen the squad. I wouldn't say that we are close to anything just yet, however."

McLeish has already utilised the loan market to bring in Scott Sinclair, Hameur Bouazza and Lee Bowyer since the turn of the year.
