McLeish steps up Boyd chase
22 Jan 2010 - 11:03:00
Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish has confirmed his interest in signing Rangers striker Kris Boyd.
Boyd's long-term future at the Scottish Premier League champions is in doubt as his current contract runs out at the end of the season.
Both the Blues and Midlands rivals Aston Villa are believed to be keen on luring the 26-year-old former Kilmarnock striker to the Premier League.
McLeish brought Boyd to Rangers during his time at the Ibrox helm and is refusing to rule out the possibility of re-signing the Scottish Premier League's recently-crowned record goalscorer.
Boyd also worked under the Blues boss during his time as Scotland manager.
"I can't confirm we have made any offer for anyone. It is not fair to talk about players at other clubs," said McLeish.
"But Boyd is out of contract in the summer and it is possible we could do some business there, but I am not committing myself."
Meanwhile, the Blues are closing in on the £3million signing of midfielder Craig Gardner from Villa.
McLeish added: "Craig is a player who can perform in a number of positions and a player like that is worth his weight in gold in terms of squad strength."
