McLeish rules out Hunt swoop

Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish has played down reports linking Republic of Ireland international Stephen Hunt with a move to St Andrew's.

McLeish has already bought eight players this summer as he aims to consolidate the Blues' place in the Premier League following last season's promotion.

When asked about the chances of Reading midfielder Hunt arriving at the club, McLeish said: "It isn't true. I'm not about to sign anybody at the moment. We've got to count our pennies.

"I don't really want to talk about players who are with other teams or I might get into trouble with the authorities. But Hunt is a good player."

The 27-year-old former Brentford player has scored 20 goals in 173 appearances for the Royals.
