McLeish pens new Birmingham deal

18 Sep 2010 - 12:52:32

Alex McLeish has finally penned a new three-year contract at Birmingham City that will keep the former Rangers and Scotland manager at St Andrew's until the end of the 2012-13 campaign.

McLeish has been in charge of the club since November 2007 and, although he was unable to stop the Blues sliding to relegation that season, he guided them to promotion from the Championship in the 2008-09 campaign.

He then presided over a ninth-placed finish in the Premier League last term - Birmingham's highest finish in 51 years.

Meanwhile, Sammy Yu has confirmed that he has stepped down from his position as football consultant at St Andrew's.

Yu played a key role in Carson Yeung's takeover of the club last year and took on the role of vice-chairman of football before moving on to the position of football consultant.

He told the Birmingham Mail: "I think the time is right for me to step down. After four years being part of the whole deal, from the beginning, I have done my bit.

"It's time to release myself and I wish Birmingham City the best for the future. To be part of the club's history in a very important era is a highlight of my life."
