McLeish keen to keep Quashie

Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish is hoping to extend Nigel Quashie's loan spell at St Andrew's into a second month. The West Ham midfielder's initial one-month deal is due to expire this weekend, but McLeish is keen to lengthen the arrangement until December 28. "We're looking at another month again," McLeish confirmed to City's official website. "Nigel made a good contribution last weekend apart from his sending off which was a wee bit unlucky. He felt he slipped as he tapped the player on the ankle from behind and you've got to back the player on that. "The booking that got him in trouble was the retaliation. But I can sympathise with him because he's been out for 15 months and he was on the end of a shocking tackle and the boy fell down as if he'd been hit in the face. "You could see clearly on the television that he was hit in the chest. He's obviously been watching too much South American football!" The Scotland international has made four appearances during his time at St Andrew's - two starts and two from the substitutes' bench.
