McLeish happy with options
02 Oct 2009 - 12:36:43
Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish insists he has enough strength in his squad to cope with the loss of striker Christian Benitez.
The forward seems certain to miss the trip to Burnley after flying home to Ecuador to be with his father who was involved in a car accident last weekend.
McLeish said: "It looks like it's going to be difficult to get him back for this weekend given the fact that he'd be leaving on Sunday to go back to Ecuador.
"We understand that his father isn't in danger and that's the biggest concern. He got shunted from behind and I think he had a head wound and neck injury and we wish him a speedy recovery.
"I think the biggest problem was he wanted to come back if he felt his dad was okay, so maybe he feels as if he should be with him at the moment.
"We've got plenty of other options if he doesn't come back. We'd have liked him to be one of the options but if it isn't to be it isn't to be and I have to deal with it.
"I've got good players who can certainly slot in there."
Meanwhile, McLeish has confirmed that he is willing to let Gary McSheffrey move to Sheffield United on loan.
