Alex McLeish praised the persistence of his players after Garry O'Connor's stoppage-time winner against Crystal Palace sent Birmingham City back to the top of the Championship table.
When it appeared the game was heading for a goalless draw, O'Connor popped up for his fourth goal of the season and his first since August 23.
"I'd never given up," said McLeish. "I'd said to the boys that it only takes a second to score and that they've got to play right to the final whistle.
"The tenacity and the determination of the players contributed to the winning goal.
"We're very pleased with the way we've been finishing late in games and I think it's a measure of how determined we are and the perseverance of the team.
"We played very well first half and I thought it was good performance full of energy and running.
"Cameron Jerome was a handful, Kevin (Phillips) and Garry linked up well, there were efforts on goal and corners, so all the ingredients were there for the fans to be excited and they've got to keep getting right behind us."
