    McLeish eyes Djourou stay

    14 Dec 2007 - 09:49:14

Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish is keen to extend Johan Djourou's loan spell at St Andrew's.

The 20-year-old defender is due to return to Arsenal in January when his initial loan contract expires.

But McLeish is hoping his Gunners counterpart Arsene Wenger will allow the Switzerland international to extend his stay.

Djourou has made 12 appearances for the Blues since his arrival in August.

"I'll ask Arsene again if he is going to allow Johan to stay," revealed McLeish.

"I've still not heard from Arsene but I will make contact again.

"It is time for me to ask because Djourou will be looking to get something sorted out as well."

Meanwhile, McLeish has played down reports linking him with moves for James McFadden and Kris Boyd, who he coached while at the helm of the Scotland national side.

"Will I be signing Scottish players? I wouldn't necessarily say that," he added.

"I want to bring in players who are going to enhance the squad. It doesn't mean they will be Scottish players."
