    McLeish content despite loss

    22 Mar 2010 - 11:57:26

Boss Alex McLeish was left with mixed feelings after his Birmingham City side were beaten 3-1 at Sunderland to drop to ninth place in the Premier League table.

The Blues were two goals behind within 11 minutes of the start at the Stadium of Light, but hit back through Cameron Jerome on the hour mark, before being thwarted on several occasions by home keeper Craig Gordon.

Fraizer Campbell then wrapped up a home win two minutes from time to leave McLeish slightly frustrated.

He told the club's official website: "It is difficult to remember us creating so many chances during a game.

"I knew at 2-0 the next goal had to be ours or else we would be dead and buried. We could sense Sunderland were nervous and the crowd were agitated.

"The more we went forward the more we looked like we were going to get a goal. Unfortunately we just did not have that killer touch.

"Also Sunderland had Craig Gordon to thank, while we had Joe Hart to thank in the first half for not going 3-0 down.

"I thought in the first half we were going to be on the end of a drubbing, the way we started and with schoolboy defending.

"But saying that I have got to give the lads credit for the way we come back. I am proud of their efforts in the second half.

"I thought in the second half we just did not get the break for all the chances we created. We saw an international goalkeeper on international form."
