McLeish bemoans injury woes
21 Sep 2009 - 13:14:10
Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish is wondering which black cat he has run over after being without 12 first-team members for Saturday's clash at Hull City.
Sebastian Larsson picked up a hamstring injury that forced him to miss the important weekend win at the KC Stadium but McLeish remains optimistic that his luck will soon start to change.
The former Scotland manager said: "I can't believe the amount of injuries we have. Is it bad luck? You look at things, you look at the training ground - are we doing something wrong?
''There's not a lot of muscle injuries, we've had a couple of recurring hamstrings. Is there a common denominator there? I don't really know. I really feel we've been served with a lot of bad luck.
"We need to get players back. I hope there's light at the end of the tunnel.
''We're waiting on Cameron Jerome, Marcus Bent and Martin Taylor. We've had these guys out long term. David Murphy is now at a good level, Liam Ridgewell has defied logic.
''A result like the one against Hull gets everybody in an urgent mood to get off that treatment table. I think the big result at Hull will shake up a few people at the club and it will urge them to want to be back and competing for their place."
