McLeish: We need a new striker
27 Jan 2010 - 10:09:05
Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish is eager to bring in a new striker to bolster his squad before the transfer window slams shut next Monday.
The Blues have enjoyed a fine season to date on their return to the top-flight, but McLeish believes that more firepower is needed, with City having scored only 21 times in 21 league games.
He told the Daily Express: "I'm trying my best to sign a new striker. I've asked the board for one or two players and I'm waiting on the go-ahead.
"I've told them who I want and it's up to them now. I'm not going to say any names, but we've certainly targeted one or two pretty decent centre-forwards.
"We need to help the rest of the squad by bringing in another striker.
"I've always said that I didn't need to spend £20million or £40million, but we need to spend some money.
"We need a striker. We were running on empty at the weekend when a 17-year-old (Jake Jervis) came on late in the game. It's great for the kid, but we need to bolster the squad."
