    Johnson boost for Blues

    21 Dec 2006 - 08:20:22

Birmingham City captain Damien Johnson returned to action in a reserve team fixture on Tuesday after nearly two months on the sidelines with a broken jaw.

The 28-year-old midfielder has been out since late October after being injured in the 2-0 derby win over West Bromwich Albion, but could be back in contention for the first team in the next couple of weeks.

Reserve team boss Keith Bertschin told the club's official website: "Even though Jonty is strong and as mentally tough as he is, when you've had an injury like he's had, it takes some getting used to.

"He wanted to play the full 90 minutes and he got through it okay.

"There were times where he was a little bit cautious which was to be expected, but his fitness levels looked okay.

"If he's called on over the Christmas period he's got to be patient with himself and people have got to be patient with him."
