Jerome keen to stay grounded

Cameron Jerome has warned his team-mates that inflated egos will not be welcome in the Birmingham dressing room. The 24-year-old played a pivotal role in the Blues top-10 Premier League finish last term as he netted 10 goals to finish as their leading marksman. Birmingham's fine season, coupled with the summer signings of Nikola Zigic and Alexander Hleb, has heightened expectations among the St Andrews faithful. Jerome, however, insists it will be the raw ingredients of hard work and team spirit that will see them reach last campaign's heights. "People will now start to expect more and more now from the team, and it would be naive for us to think because we finished that high last season, we can do it again," he told skysports.com. "We have to earn that right again. The success we had last season was down to hard work and the good team spirit that we have built here. "We took a lot of people by surprise too because we were a newly promoted side but have added some quality to the side this summer too. "But we have to keep the same qualities that served us so well last season. The worse thing that we can do is to start believing our own hype and press and getting a big headed. "But I don't think that will happen here because we have a good bunch of lads." The Blues welcome Liverpool to St Andrew's on Sunday and Jerome is confident that they can get a result against their celebrated visitors. He added: "We didn't lose against any of the big four at home last season and had a long unbeaten run here. "We were able to build spirit, character in the team and the manager was largely responsible for that. You don't need millions to have a good spirit."
