Gold still hopeful on Vieira
07 Jul 2009 - 08:39:46
Birmingham City chairman David Gold still hopes to resurrect a deal to bring Internazionale midfielder Patrick Vieira to St Andrew's.
Since winning promotion to the Premier League in May, the Blues have snapped up Christian Benitez, Scott Dann, Joe Hart, Giovanni Espinoza and Roger Johnson, but Gold insists more new arrivals are possible.
Joey Barton, Gareth Bale and Barry Ferguson have all been linked with City as well as former Arsenal star Vieira.
Gold told the Metro: "I'd like to think there are a couple more signings who might whet the appetite and I don't think the Vieira deal is dead.
"Players play it cool for a while and wait for better deals. The situation is not dissimilar to that of Michael Owen, who waited for Manchester United's offer.
"There's every possibility he (Vieira) will decide he wants to get back into the Premier League and that he can do that with us."
