Foster admits to weird feeling

16 Nov 2009 - 09:27:19

Ben Foster has admitted that he is disappointed to currently only be the third-choice goalkeeper at Manchester United.

The 26-year-old, who started England's friendly defeat to Brazil in Qatar on Saturday, was expected to displace veteran shot-stopper Edwin van der Sar as United's top keeper this term, but instead has slipped down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

A finger injury sidelined the Dutchman at the start of the season but, after a string of errors, Foster now finds himself behind both van der Sar and Tomasz Kuszczak in United boss Sir Alex Ferguson's plans.

Foster admitted: "It's a weird one. I'm third choice for Manchester United at the moment yet I'm playing for my country.

"It's very disheartening not even being on the bench at United.

"Edwin is one of the best keepers in the world. I can't really go knocking on the manager's door and say he isn't doing his job because he is.

"I thought I started off well but then there was a period of two or three games where I made a few mistakes.

"But they were the only ones I made really and I was disappointed to find myself out of the team."
