Forssell back under the knife
09 Nov 2006 - 15:52:50
Birmingham City striker Mikael Forssell could be out for as long as three months after being forced to undergo an operation on a knee injury.
The 25-year-old injured his right knee in training at the weekend, although Blues boss Steve Bruce is relieved that the Finn has not injured the knee he required career-saving surgery on a couple of years ago.
Bruce told the club's official website: "Mikael has been feeling some discomfort in the knee for a while and, after a scan, it was decided it needed to be washed out.
"He's got a bit of cartilage damage in there that needed to be repaired. It's Mikael's other knee and not the one that kept him out of action for eight months.
"It's a shame for him and us that he will be missing for between eight to 12 weeks."
Former Chelsea forward Forssell has scored just once in nine games for the Blues this term.
