Fit Forssell eyes comeback
08 Nov 2007 - 11:25:21
Birmingham City are confident that injury-plagued striker Mikael Forssell is ready to return to the first team after continuing his latest comeback in the reserves.
The Finland international has bagged six goals in two second-string outings since being given the all clear to return after hernia surgery last month.
Forssell has yet to return to the first-team squad after his latest injury problems, but Blues reserve team boss Keith Bertschin believes he will be fit and ready when manager Steve Bruce decides to recall him.
"For me what these games have given Mikael is the knack of putting the ball in the back of the net," he told the club's official website.
"He's enjoying playing because he loves to score.
"He's only human so he misses a few as well, but he's in a position now where he's getting goals.
"He's a super build and very strong and he sometimes just needs to make that count a little bit more.
"Considering all the stuff he's had in the past and the fact that he's just recovered from a hernia operation, it will help his confidence levels no end.
"His hernia problem has completely settled down and he looks like he's moving freely and he's competitive.
"I think it will play him into consideration for the first team."
