Ferguson: We can take on anyone

irmingham midfielder Barry Ferguson has stated that his team are now good enough to deal with any team this season. Manager Alex McLeish added former Arsenal winger Aleksandr Helb, Chilean international Jean Beausejour and Czech defender Martin Jiranek to the ranks on transfer deadline day. All three are likely to be in the squad to face Liverpool at St Andrew's on Sunday, and Ferguson said that although the Reds' class was undoubted, they were more than ready for any challenge that came their way after dealing with Blackburn and Bolton in their last two encounters. "Bolton and Blackburn play a certain style of football,'' Ferguson told the Birmingham Mail. ''They have big lads up front, big lads throughout the team. "But I think we've coped with that really well in both of the games. "It will be a bit of a different test when we come up against the team who like to get the ball down. "But I'm confident we can cope with anybody just now. "We're undefeated and we're happy we've taken five points, but at the same time disappointed as it could have been more." The former Scotland skipper was also pleased to see several new recruits, who were signed following McLeish's decision to ditch his efforts to land Wigan winger Charles N'Zogbia. "I think it's important, players' character," said Ferguson. "The manager's not a daft man. He knows what type of characters, what type of people, are in the dressing room. He knows what he wants. "That's why probably he has not brought in even more players, because they have got to be right. "You see what we've got in the team, everybody gets on with each other. "It's a great spirit - the best spirit I have ever been involved in, the best bunch of lads I've met. "I think we needed a couple of players as it's always healthy."
