City's Bruce is top man

Steve Bruce has been named the Championship manager of the month after steering the in-form Blues to an unbeaten December. Bruce beat off competition from Geraint Williams of Colchester United, Brian Laws of Sheffield Wednesday and West Brom's Tony Mowbray to win the monthly accolade. During December, Birmingham won five and drew one of their six games to take a stranglehold at the top of the Championship. The St Andrew's club - who earlier in the season were reportedly considering the future of Bruce - are currently three points clear of Derby County at the top of the table. "We have done terrifically well over the last three months and have put a run together to get where we are but the hard part is trying to stay there," said Bruce. "You win awards through the effort of the players and they have been terrific. "They have come to the fore and produced an unbelievable set of results and all credit to them."
