City hopeful over Forssell
04 Oct 2007 - 14:05:54
Birmingham City are hopeful that Mikael Forssell can resume training within the next seven days following hernia surgery.
The injury-plagued Finland international underwent a successful operation earlier in the week and could be back in first-team contention before the end of the month.
"Mikael had the operation on Tuesday and everything went very well," revealed Blues number two Eric Black.
"He had a slight tear which had opened up a little bit, but with modern surgical techniques it can be as little as three weeks before somebody is playing again.
"We hope to have him back training in the next seven to 10 days and hopefully he won't miss too many games with the international break."
The 26-year-old, who joined the Blues from Chelsea in 2005, saw a move to German side Hannover collapse in the summer due to concerns over his long-term fitness.
Forssell has scored once in six appearances this season.
