Bruce warning for Blues
28 Feb 2007 - 10:48:16
Birmingham City boss Steve Bruce has warned his side they have no divine right to win promotion back to the Premiership despite moving to the top of the table following Tuesday's 1-0 win over Leeds United.
Nicklas Bendtner settled a tight match at St Andrew's in the home side's favour, but Bruce has warned City that their work is far from over despite their one-point lead over West Brom at the top of the Championship table.
"It's been a funny time for us as we've struggled to regain our impetus," he said.
"We're making it difficult for ourselves in as much that we're only scoring one goal, whereas in the past we were obtaining two or more goals.
"But we're delighted to be top of the league and we have an outstanding chance to earn promotion, although there are still going to be some ticklish moments between now and the end of the season.
"We now have home games coming up against Cardiff and Derby and they should be cracking matches, so we're going to try and enjoy ourselves - if 'enjoy' is the right word.
"What we have to guard against is this air that seems to have been about the place that we have a divine right to be top of the table and a divine right to go up because we were in the Premiership last year."
