Bruce vows to keep Upson
25 Nov 2006 - 08:13:11
Birmingham City manager Steve Bruce insists he has not been told to sell former England international Matthew Upson in the January transfer window.
The former Arsenal defender has 18 months left on his current contract fuelling rumours that he will be heading out of St Andrew's in the near future.
However, Bruce told the club's official website: "I'm not expecting any movement with Upson in January, but you never know.
"We've still got three windows - January, next summer and then next Christmas - and in football that's a lifetime and anything can happen.
"I'm under no pressure to sell him, but my job is to protect the club's investments.
"I don't want to sell anybody but I've got to be to wary of the fact that if I'm doing my job properly I'm not going to let a player like Upson just drift out of contract or you lose all that money, which is bad management."
