Bruce keen on takeover

06 Sep 2007 - 10:15:40

Birmingham City manager Steve Bruce is hoping for a cash injection should Carson Yeung's proposed takeover of the club go ahead as planned.

The Hong Kong businessman purchased a 29.9 per cent stake in the Blues back in July and is expected to launch a full takeover bid in the coming months.

Bruce has revealed he would welcome the move as it would provide him with a cash injection to strengthen his squad during the January transfer window.

The Blues boss was forced into the loan market during the summer after being restricted to spending just £7million on new recruits, while last minute hitches prevented him from signing the likes of Atletico Madrid midfielder Peter Luccin.

"It's been difficult so you have to wheel and deal and do a bit. I've been delighted with what we've done," he claimed.

"Johan Djourou, for instance, where could we buy him? To get him on loan from Arsenal is a real bonus for us.

"To be fair to the club owners when they have to go into their pockets they do so. They give everything the club generates towards my budget.

"When the new guy comes in, I look at all the other investors that have come into the Premier League, at Portsmouth, Manchester City, West Ham, everywhere you look, and what they have spent.

"We obviously hope that is going to be the case here as well. It will be a fantastic scenario if that happens."
