Birmingham City boss Steve Bruce hailed hat-trick hero Gary McSheffrey after his treble helped the Blues see off promotion rivals Preston North End 3-1 at St Andrew's.
McSheffrey has netted 11 goals in 21 games for the Blues since his big-money move from Coventry City, with Bruce delighted that he finally managed to land the £4million forward.
He commented: "Gary has been a fantastic acquisition for us.
"There were times in the summer when it looked like the move from Coventry was not going to happen but I never gave up.
"I kept pushing and pushing. Gary was my number one target. He is everything I admire in a player.
"He is full of life and guts and determination and he is a very good finisher."
