Birmingham City defender Liam Ridgewell suffered a broken leg in Monday's 1-1 draw with Plymouth Argyle.
The 24-year-old former Aston Villa star picked up the injury midway through the first half in a challenge with Pilgrims striker Jamie Mackie.
Blues boss Alex McLeish told the club's website: "I don't know the full report but it seems like he's bust a leg - he has a broken bone in his leg.
"I don't know to what extent but suffice to say his season is over.
"I think it was his left leg, his kicking foot and stronger leg. The challenge, I don't think, was anybody's fault.
"It was just the way he landed because his knee seemed a bit open as he played the pass."
