Boss sets sights on Chelsea scalp

Birmingham's five-match winning run came to an end at Goodison Park on Sunday but McLeish was delighted with the way his players battled back to salvage a 1-1 draw after a slow start. McLeish knows it will be difficult to maintain such impressive form when Premier League leaders Chelsea visit St Andrew's on Boxing Day. However, he still feels there is a chance of claiming a famous scalp and is targeting nothing less than three points. "The lads' performance against Everton was little short of fantastic. It really was quite remarkable," McLeish said in the Daily Star. "We will be trying to make it a tough test for Chelsea. We have enough about us to give them a tough game. "At St Andrew's we've a good chance of beating anyone. Make no mistake, we will be trying to beat Chelsea. "They're a top team with world-class players but we have to go for it. We want to give them as big a fright as we can and I am only thinking about that game." Mick McCarthy caused controversy last week by making 10 changes for Wolves' trip to Manchester United and McLeish could be tempted to freshen up his own Birmingham side, with another game to come at Stoke next Monday. But McLeish is not planning to rest players as he hopes to do a favour for Carlo Ancelotti's rivals in the title race. "There is an aspect of 'if it isn't broke don't fix it' about my thinking at the moment," explained the former Scotland boss. "I think we were tired mentally and physically against Everton. We are prepared for Chelsea to be coming at us all guns blazing. "But we are looking forward to it and would love to get a result. My pal Sir Alex Ferguson would be happy if we did, I'm sure. Mr Wenger would probably be my pal too. "The way we look at it is we are at home and we don't fear anyone. You know on top form they can murder you. "But it's a big glamour game against a top-class side and my lads want to play in it." Birmingham v Chelsea. Click here to bet.
