Birmingham City have completed the signing of Argentinian starlet Mauro Zarate on a season-long loan deal.
The 20-year-old striker, who cost current club Al-Sadd of Qatar £10million from Velez Sarsfield in the summer, has failed to settle in the Middle East.
Zarate had been linked with a move to several leading clubs across Europe after scoring the winner in the final of the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in the summer.
However, he eventually ended up at Al-Sadd and signed off with a goal in their 4-0 win over league leaders Al-Gharrafa on Friday.
Prior to his move to Qatar, Zarate was the joint leading scorer in the first half of the 2006-07 Argentinian top-flight season.
"Blues have today completed the loan signing of Argentinian striker Mauro Zarate from Qatari side Al-Sadd," read a club statement.
"The Under-20 international joins the club until the end of the current season.
"Blues are hoping to be able to play Zarate in this evening's (Monday's) reserve game against Arsenal at St. Andrew's, but that is dependent on international clearance being received by 5pm."
