Blues striker crisis worsens

Birmingham City, fresh from the news that top scorer Kevin Phillips will miss the next three weeks with injury, have suffered further bad news regarding Garry O'Connor. The Scottish hitman, who scored five times before undergoing an operation on his groin in December, was due to return this week but now looks likely to miss the rest of this month. "I think Garry is going to be out for another two or three weeks. He's had a little problem with stiffness around about his groin," explained Blues boss Alex McLeish. "He had that operation and he's come back, but he's not kicking fully through the ball and you can see there is still a bit of a tentative look about him." With Gary McSheffrey also in recovery after a knee injury, Cameron Jerome and Marcus Bent will be under pressure to provide the goals until Phillips and O'Connor return.
