Birmingham City are reportedly closing in on Lokomotiv Moscow striker Garry O'Connor.
The Blues have tabled a £2.5million offer for the Scotland international, who moved to Russia in February 2006 from Hibernian.
The 24-year-old scored the winner in last month's Russian cup final but has continually been linked with a return to Britain with Fulham, Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion all believed to be interested.
However, after having a £3million approach for transfer-listed West Ham striker Marlon Harewood turned down earlier in the week, Birmingham boss Steve Bruce has turned his attention to O'Connor.
"A bid has been received from Birmingham City for Garry O'Connor which is being considered," claimed a Lokomotiv spokesman.
"The negotiation of the financial details will continue and everything will be concluded within 48 hours."
O'Connor scored 58 times in 166 appearances for Hibs during seven years at Easter Road.
He was also on target for Scotland in last month's games with Austria and the Faroe Islands following a recall to the international fold.
