    Blues seal Djourou loan

    10 Aug 2007 - 12:37:03

Birmingham City have snapped up Arsenal centre-back Johan Djourou on an initial loan deal running until the January transfer window.

The 20-year-old Switzerland international could remain with the Blues until the end of the season should he impress City manager Steve Bruce.

Djourou joined the Gunners in the summer of 2003 and was handed a six-year contract extension just over a year ago.

He has made 45 appearances for the north London club in total, but faced stiff competition for a starting spot from Kolo Toure, William Gallas and compatriot Philippe Senderos.

Djourou was a member of the Swiss squad at the World Cup finals in Germany in the summer of 2006, featuring against France, South Korea and Ukraine.

He becomes City's tenth signing of the summer, as they prepare for life back in the top-flight.
