Birmingham City have decided to pull out of a deal to sign Tottenham's Egypt international Hossam Ghaly.
A brief statement on the Blues' official website read: "Birmingham City Football Club can today confirm that they will not be proceeding with the transfer of Hossam Ghaly from Tottenham Hotspur due to footballing reasons."
On Monday it was revealed that City boss Steve Bruce had agreed a £3million deal with Spurs for the 25-year-old who was set to pen a three-year deal with the Blues.
He reportedly required only a fresh work permit to formally complete his move to the Midlands.
Ghaly joined Spurs in January 2006 from Dutch side Feyenoord and has scored three goals in 34 appearances for the north London club.
Bruce was quoted earlier in the week on the club's official website as saying: "The signing of Hossam is an excellent acquisition. He will play a vital role in the middle of the park for us this season.
"I was always very impressed with him whenever I watched him play for Spurs last season.
"He has all the credentials that we are looking for in a player. He is only 25 and is a very talented international who still has the hunger to succeed in the Premier League.
"As well as being technically gifted, Hossam can also stand up to the physical side of the game so he will give us that extra edge in midfield."
