Blues interested in Ferguson

Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish has confirmed his interest in signing Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson.

Ferguson's future at Ibrox has been in doubt after he was stripped of the club captaincy in April following disciplinary issues arising from an incident while on international duty with Scotland.

The 31-year-old midfielder did return from injury to make a handful of appearances towards the end of the season but is still rumoured to be surplus to requirements.

Ferguson was linked with a £1million switch to West Bromwich Albion last month, but Blues boss McLeish is hoping to persuade his former Scotland captain to move to St Andrew's with the offer of Premier League football.

"I haven't made a move for Barry, but I have enquired about him," McLeish told the Daily Record.

"He is one of a number of players I'm interested in. I'm on holiday right now but I'm still working away at some things."
