Blues hint at Forssell stay

Blues hint at Forssell stay
Thursday May 24 2007 11:27

Birmingham City chairman David Gold insists Mikael Forssell could still have a future at the club after the striker's £1million move to Hannover collapsed.

The Blues had agreed to sell the Finland international to the Bundesliga side following a frustrating three-year spell at St Andrew's ravaged by a series of knee injuries.

But, after the move broke down at the 11th hour, Gold has reassured the former Chelsea striker - who scored 17 goals for Birmingham while in the top-flight during the 2003/04 season - that he could still have a part to play next term.

"I still believe that Mikael can play a part at Birmingham City. He is a terrific striker and seems to be coming back to fitness," said Gold.

"You could do a lot worse than him in your strike force. He is raring to go and feels that sharpness is coming back into his game.

"With a good pre-season under his belt, Mikael could be back to what he was when we first had him.

"Any striker that scores nearly 20 goals in the Premier League is worth his weight in gold."
