Blues give up on Spurs ace

Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish has confirmed he has ended his interest in signing Tottenham Hotspur striker Roman Pavlyuchenko.

The Blues are believed to have tabled a £10million offer for the unsettled Russia striker which was rejected on Friday.

Pavlyuchenko has found himself down the pecking order at White Hart Lane under Harry Redknapp, but McLeish will not pay what he believes is over the odds for the striker who cost Spurs £13million from Spartak Moscow 18 months ago.

"I think we are going to leave that one now," he said after Saturday's 1-1 draw with Spurs at St Andrew's.

Meanwhile, Mcleish has admitted that he remains in the hunt for a new striker after also failing to land Ivory Coast international Aruna Dindane from Lens.

He added: "We couldn't agree with Lens, so that's one that's off the radar as well.

"I'm trying to help up front and I think we could do with another body up front.

"I have to think seriously over the next 48 hours whether we break the bank or we get somebody in who can help out until the end of the season, possibly a loan."
