    Blues finally land McSheffrey

    16 Aug 2006 - 11:44:36

Birmingham City have finally got their man after completing the £4million signing of Coventry City forward Gary McSheffrey.

The 25-year-old had been the subject of several earlier bids from the Blues, before Coventry finally agreed to a deal that saw McSheffrey pen a four-year contract at St Andrew's.

Managing director Paul Fletcher told the Sky Blues' official website: "It was never our intention to let Gary McSheffrey go, but we have made a decision which we believe is in the best interests of Coventry City Football Club.

"Gary has been a tremendous servant to this football club, but there comes a time in everyone's career when they have an opportunity to move on.

"Although I understand that this decision will be unpopular with many of our supporters, I would urge all of our fans to look long-term towards our goal of reaching the Premiership within the next three years.

"This money will help Micky Adams to strengthen the squad and create a better team to get us there."

McSheffrey progressed through the youth ranks at Coventry and went on to 53 goals in 165 first-team appearances for the club.
