Birmingham City have again been linked with a move for former Aston Villa Darius Vassell, who is currently out of favour at Manchester City.
The 27-year-old has dropped down the pecking order with the Citizens, with Blues manager Steve Bruce reportedly monitoring the situation regarding the England frontman.
City chairman David Gold commented: "Steve is looking for players that will shortly be out of contract and there are a few on his list.
"I don't know everybody who is on his list, but when it's time to spend the money, Steve will come to the club owners and say 'I think this player would strengthen my squad'."
Meanwhile, Bruce has confirmed that the Blues lead the chase for former Internazionale striker Mohamed Kallon, who is training with City as a free agent.
He added: "It's wrong to say he's on trial.
"He's training with us and getting into shape. If he can do us a favour, then we're in pole position to sort something out."
The Blues have also been linked with Real Madrid midfielder Esterban Granero, who is currently on loan at La Liga rivals Getafe.
