Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish insists the club are 100 per cent behind Martin Taylor following his tackle which left Arsenal striker Eduardo with a horrific broken leg.

Taylor was sent off for his tackle during Saturday's 2-2 draw at St Andrew's which left the Croatia striker potentially fighting for his career.

Immediately after the match, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger claimed Taylor should be banned for life for his tackle.

The Frenchman later retracted his comments which has been welcomed by McLeish and the Blues boss says Taylor must now be allowed to continue his career.

"I think the fact that Arsene retracted tells you the whole story and I said to the press that he probably said it in the heat of the moment and he admitted that he had done that," he said.

"We move forward. Martin Taylor has got to get on with his football career again and we are behind the big fella 100 per cent and we are very gutted for Eduardo.

"I would have been worried about him if he had not received support from football people the length and breadth of the country.

"There is a bit of furore over the whole incident and it has probably gone too far.

"We would like to draw a line under it now and let the big man get on with his career and hope Eduardo gets back as soon as possible.

"We have to rally round Martin because I think he is very disappointed about the player and he is mentally shattered by the whole experience."
