Davis added to Blues squad

Birmingham have bolstered their squad ahead of Tuesday night's Capital One Cup clash with Cambridge at St Andrews by bringing in midfielder David Davis from Wolves on a two-year deal.

Blues boss Lee Clark also took heart from the eye-catching display of teenager Demarai Gray at Middlesbrough but knows his side need to be more positive in attack after that 2-0 Championship defeat.

"I don't think we got young Demarai the ball enough, as when we did he was exciting," said Clark. "But we shouldn't have to rely on an 18-year-old boy, we've got to help him. The senior players need to give good performances alongside him, not him be the shining light for us.

"We were so negative in our attacking play and I can't understand why because we've done really well pre-season and the players should be playing full of confidence. It's there to see in the stats, I don't think we've had a shot on target so you can't win a football match if that happens."

Cambridge will look to maintain the feelgood factor running round the club with no fresh injury worries.

United's last appearance in the League Cup was back in 2004 when losing 1-0 at Watford and Josh Coulson is keen to make the most of their trip to St Andrews after bagging the winning goal against Plymouth in Saturday's League Two return.

"We're just happy to get off to a winning start," the local hero told Cambridge United Player. "It's nine years since we were in the league so to score the first goal back means a lot to me; the boys are buzzing and we were straight back in on the training ground working for Birmingham away. It's all been very emotional but we'll take it one game at a time."

U's boss Richard Money added: "If you can get a good start, sometimes it's easier to keep that momentum; we also want to keep on improving and I think we can."
