Birmingham snap up Onyewu and make 5m bid for Cardiff's Johnson

Birmingham City are to sign the Standard Liege central defender Oguchi Onyewu and have made a new £5m bid for Cardiff City centre half Roger Johnson. Free agent Onyewu, 27, is to sign a three-year contract at St Andrew's. He had a brief taste of life in the Premier League two years ago when he made 11 appearances on loan for Newcastle United. Birmingham are still keen on Johnson after having a £3.5m bid rejected last week and are also close to signing Ecuador international central defender Giovanny Espinoza 32, from Barcelona Sporting Club.
