Birmingham City v Blackburn Rovers - Match preview

Published: 15 Dec 2009 - 11:45:03

Birmingham City's momentum keeps on rolling after yet another win at the weekend and, with Blackburn Rovers coming to town on Tuesday, the Blues should be confident of grabbing three more points.

After languishing at the wrong end of the table for much of the current campaign, a run that has yielded five wins and two draws from seven games and with four successes on the spin, Alex McLeish's men have climbed to eighth in the Premier League table.

Saturday's victory against West Ham United has given the Midlands side further confidence ahead of the busy Christmas period and match-winner Lee Bowyer, who has now struck six goals this season, is revelling in the limelight after regaining the form that had seemingly eluded him since his Leeds United days.

The watertight back-line of Stephen Carr, Liam Ridgewell, Roger Johnson and Scott Dann is proving to be pivotal for the St Andrew's side and they have conceded just four goals in eight home games this season.

However, McLeish is without Teemu Tainio and David Murphy (both knee), Stuart Parnaby (back), Garry O'Connor (hip) and Martin Taylor (ankle). in the table and, while their home form is impressive, it is their away-day problems that continue to blight them.

Sam Allardyce's visitors should be quietly confident themselves after keeping clean sheets in their previous three league games.

Although they are producing miserly defensive performances, they haven't scored in these three fixtures, as all have ended in goalless draws.

David Dunn is likely to remain out with a calf strain while Vince Grella could also miss the contest.

The Australia international limped out of Saturday's 0-0 draw at Hull City just before half-time with a thigh injury.

Blackburn currently sit in 12th position in the table and, while their home form is impressive, it is their away-day problems that continue to blight them.
