Barry Ferguson set for 1.5m Birmingham move after Rangers accept bid for ex-Scotland skipper
Published : 15 Jul 2009 18:42:40
Barry Ferguson, the controversial former Scotland skipper, is discussing personal terms with Birmingham City. Birmingham manager Alex McLeish and the player's agent have both confirmed that the Blues are looking to complete a deal for the Rangers midfielder, which is believed to be worth £1.5m. Ferguson's representative John Viola says the transfer fee has already been agreed. He will travel to Birmingham and join in talks over personal terms. Birmingham have been looking at other younger midfielders too but McLeish has long been an admirer of 31-year-old Ferguson. The ex-Rangers skipper was stripped of his club and county's captaincy after a drinking session and making offensive gestures, so he has fallen out of favour at Ibrox. But he is due to complete a medical at Birmingham and could join the squad on their pre-season tour of Austria, starting on Sunday. Meanwhile, striker Cameron Jerome has agreed a new five-year contract to stay at St Andrew's. But McLeish is still looking to strengthen the Birmingham squad ahead of their return to the Barclays Premier League.
