Babel wanted by Birmingham
06 Jan 2010 - 12:33:17
Birmingham City have made an offer for Liverpool's Ryan Babel as they close in on two new midfield signings.
Netherlands international Babel has failed to live up to the £14million price tag which took him from Ajax to Anfield in summer 2007.
However, Blues boss Alex McLeish is hoping to offer the 23-year-old winger the opportunity to resurrect his career in England with a spell at St Andrew's.
Meanwhile, the Blues are also closing in on a deal for Sporting Gijon midfielder Michel.
The 24-year-old Spaniard is reported to be on the verge of joining the on a two-and-a-half year contract for a fee in the region of £3million.
Speaking about Babel, agent Winnie Haatrecht explained: "We know that Liverpool seriously thinks about the offer from Birmingham, we would consider a deal if both clubs come to an agreement.
"In general Ryan wants to succeed at Liverpool. But if the people at Anfield conclude it's better he leaves, we have to think about the next chapter in his career.
"We will look then to the team, the perspectives of the club and Ryan, as well as a meeting with the manager."
