Alex McLeish can't wait to boost fragile Birmingham squad with Carson Yeung's millions

Alex McLeish sent an upbeat message to Birmingham City's supporters as he ushered in a new era at St Andrew's. The Scot was in bullish mood as he faced the media for the first time following the £81.5million takeover by Carson Yeung and his Hong Kong consortium. McLeish has been given assurances about his own position and he revealed that he had been promised money to spend when the January transfer window reopens. Vision: Alex McLeixh will have money to reshape his Birmingham team New regime: Carson Yeung has led the takeover at St Andrews 'I have held preliminary talks with the new owners - but there is no master plan,' he said. 'However, the indications are good. 'Mr Yeung would not have paid 80-odd million for a football club if he didn't have any ambition. He has indicated there will be some money available to spend in January. 'I've never been in that situation before but I will do my best to improve things as I see fit. 'I don't think the new owners should announce a figure because all that does is bump up the prices. 'But we do have a fragile squad. At times I've struggled to get 11 fit players out on the pitch. 'I'm delighted with the enthusiasm shown by the supporters. The fans are buzzing again - they are looking forward in anticipation. 'I look forward to seeing St Andrew's full again and back to the position the club was in a few years ago where they had full houses that were intimidating for the opposition.'
