Bull - now vice-chairman at Molineux - sees the outcome of the Midlands derby crucial to Wolves hopes of staying up this season, ensconced as they now are in the bottom two.
But an old gold victory will leave them just two points behind the Blues, something Bull insists is crucial - no matter how ugly things get.
'It won't be a pretty game that's for sure,' said Bull.
'There won't be a key man on either side because all 11 will be rolling their sleeves up and offering blood and sweat for the cause.
'It'll be a full house of over 28,000, superb atmosphere, but it's a must-win for us - we need the points badly and all that goes with winning a derby.'
A blood and thunder game is the sort of day Bull - who netted over 300 goals for Wolves in a 13-year, 500-game career - used to relish.
He rates fearsome former Millwall midfielder Terry Hurlock as one of his favourite opponents and starred in an era when players would hit each other with all they had - then get up and carry on.
Known as the Tipton Skin for his trademark close-cropped haircut, Bull added: 'Every game was hard back then - firm but fair - and you knew you'd been in a match afterwards.
'But nowadays players seem to go down or dive whereas all I wanted to do when I got in the box was score - I never went down unless I was cut down.
'And to be honest, if I was playing today, my career would have lasted five years longer because there's tackling for behind and everyone is so protected from physical contact.'
