Pick your Premier League Team of the Season - Goalkeepers

26 April 2010 09:36
The PFA has named their Team of the Season, but we at Football.co.uk are asking fans to have their say in picking a representative XI based on the current campaign.

All this week you will be able to vote for our nominations for our very own Team of the Season.

We start with goalkeepers, before covering defenders tomorrow, midfielders on Wednesday, strikers on Thursday and managers on Friday.

1. Boaz Myhill (Hull City)
Despite Hull's disastrous league campaign, their American born Welsh international goalkeeper has had an excellent year between the sticks. His most notable performance came in a goalless draw at White Hart Lane against Spurs in January when he made a string of superb stops to earn a point for his team. His excellent reflexes and reactions must be worth at least six points a season, and Hull would have been sent packing back to the Championship a lot sooner than last Saturday were it not for Myhill.

2. Heurelho Gomes (Tottenham Hotspur)
After a difficult start to life at Spurs last season, Brazil's second choice keeper has finally begun to show the form that led to Juande Ramos paying almost £8 million for his services. Gomes is one of the most athletic keepers in the Premiership and extremely quick off his line to narrow the angle for oncoming attackers. He kept Spurs ahead against Arsenal two weeks ago with two world class saves from Robin van Persie. His only weakness now remains catching, but he would definitely be a candidate for Premiership's most improved player.

3. Marcus Hahnemann (Wolves)
The giant American was born in the same mould as US legend Brad Friedel, and would undoubtedly have more international caps would he not have had to play second fiddle to either Friedel or Kasey Keller throughout his career. Having gained Premier League experience with Reading before they were relegated, Hahnemann had tasted the big time and wanted to stay. Hahnemann signed a one year contract with Wolves last July, which manager Mick McCarthy would be a fool not to renew, given the American's impressive form over the last eight months.

4. Joe Hart (Birmingham City)
A vast amount of credit has rightly been attributed to Blues manager Alex McCleish for guiding Birmingham City into the top half of the Premiership in their first season back in the top flight. But an equal amount of praise should be heaped on the young shoulders of England hopeful Joe Hart, who has played an instrumental role in Birmingham's progress this term. He has weighed in with dominant performances against the 'Big Four', and England boss Fabio Capello has been to watch Hart on several occasions, most recently yesterday when Capello was at the second city derby between Birmingham and Aston Villa. So good has his form been that Roberto Mancini has already said he does not want Hart going out on loan from Manchester City again, instead preferring him to stay and battle Shay Given for the jersey at Eastlands.

5. Paul Robinson (Blackburn Rovers)
Devoid of confidence when he departed White Hart Lane in 2008, the ex first choice England keeper has been steadily rebuilding his confidence at Ewood Park. The bulky Robinson has lost weight under boss Sam Allardyce's new health and fitness regime, which seemed to have slipped somewhat under old manager Paul Ince, and is now reaping the rewards with an excellent last six months. Robinson has now played himself firmly back into contention for a seat on the plane to South Africa in June.
