Phillips targets league place

Kevin Phillips is hoping his cup form can help him force his way into Birmingham manager Alex McLeish's Barclays Premier League plans. The veteran striker made it three goals from three starts with a superb volley in Saturday's FA Cup quarter-final defeat by Bolton. That made it 2-2 and, although Lee Chung-yong scored a late winner for the visitors, Phillips felt Birmingham's below-strength side deserved plenty of credit. The 37-year-old told the club's official website: "All I can do when I'm given the chance is try and do well. I really enjoyed it on Saturday and I thought I was getting stronger as the game went on. "It's not bad, three starts and three goals this season - you can't argue with that. "It was a good cup tie considering we were up against it with injuries. The lads put in a superb effort but unfortunately we conceded late on, which was disappointing."
