Phillips keeps options open

Kevin Phillips admits he will seriously look at moving from Birmingham in the summer if he can be assured of regular football elsewhere as he approaches the end of his career. The 36-year-old is waiting to see whether he will enjoy a rare start in Wednesday's Barclays Premier League encounter at West Ham after scoring twice as a substitute in the weekend win over Wolves. Phillips, when asked if he would like to be part of McLeish's plans next season, said: "I can bring things to the club. I can help younger players - but ultimately I don't want to finish my career on the bench week in and week out. "I've done it a fair bit this year but, if the chance comes to go somewhere in the summer where I can go and play regularly, I'll look at it. But I've had a fantastic year and a half here. If the manager wants to speak about another year, I'll definitely speak to him. "Someone said to me, who is well respected in the game, that you want to play at the highest level as long as you can. It is easier to go down than to come back up. "That is a decision I'll make in the summer and see what happens. But I certainly won't be one of those players in three or four years time who will still be playing in the lower divisions. The Championship is as far down as I would go."
