McLeish keeps Blues on their toes

Birmingham City boss Alex McLeish has warned his players not to take their first team places for granted.The Blues held Liverpool to a 0-0 draw last Sunday, and go into Saturday's match at West Brom in fifth spot. [LNB]McLeish said: "They did really well last week, but I can't promise anybody they'll retain their place. [LNB]"I don't go with the old adage that if you play well you stay in the team. But it will give you a really good chance, don't get me wrong." [LNB]McLeish has also warned his Premier League rivals they have a fight on their hands if they want to try to sign either of his central defenders in January.[LNB] The best team in the Midlands by a country mile is without any doubt Birmingham City blueinbarca Scott Dann and Roger Johnson have won plaudits for their performances over the last year, with the former being linked to both Manchester United and Liverpool. [LNB]McLeish said: "I think it's great that my players are getting recognition, because that means we're doing well. [LNB]"So bring it on, I'd be quite happy [to see for bids either player], but it won't be easy for any club to buy players from this club." [LNB]McLeish added that he is likely to end speculation over his agreeing a new deal at St Andrew's by signing an improved contract within a week. [LNB]"We make an announcement very soon," he said. "It's looking good."
